Co-Production Framework and Charter Published
We are delighted that the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Local Area Partnership (Birmingham City Council, Birmingham ICS (NHS), Birmingham Children’s Trust, Parent Carer Forum and RISE Youth Group) has now published a Co-Production Framework and Charter (or Agreement) in response to the Ofsted revisit last year. Thank you very much to all those who contributed to making this happen.

The key thinking about co-production is ‘nothing about us without us’. Involving children, young people and their families in service improvements from beginning to end, ensuring their voices can be heard and they are playing a more powerful role in service design and delivery leads to better outcomes for all.
Next Steps
We now need to make co-production daily and best practice in Birmingham. Next Steps will include:
- We continue to co-produce in all activities, wherever possible – ‘nothing about us without us’ and encourage others to as well.
- We are recruiting a Participation and Co-production Officer to begin work as soon as possible.
- We are developing practical guidance or a ‘tool kit’ on how to do co-production well. This will be developed by the multi-agency Co-Production Champion’s group which meets half-termly.
- We’re working with young people to develop a youth participation strategy and action plan to progress things that are important to them.
