Welcome to the Pupil and School Support course on diagnostic and standardised assessments.

This short course gives information about the differences between diagnostic and standardised assessments for pupils with learning difficulties. The course aims to give SENCOs an understanding of both types of assessment and identify which is most appropriate.

The course is aimed at SENCOs and school leaders. You may wish to use this short course for your own CPD and to inform school policy around assessment for SEN. The course will also help to inform your conversations with outside agencies.  The course will usually take 30 minutes to complete online.

During this course, you will learn:

✔ about the definitions associated with standardised and diagnostic assessment and some differences between them;

✔ more about standardised and psychometric assessments, their uses and some of the assessments that are available;

✔ more about diagnostic assessments, when you might use them and how to ensure they are administered well.
